“American dream or art world scheme?” Why do you think the film does not answer this question for us?

I believe that the documentary doesn't answer the above question because, it is meant to give you a more in-depth view of the situation in order for you, the viewer, to make make your own decision based on your interpretation of the information provided to you. The director was even unsure of the truth. He wanted to find out for himself instead of having 60 minutes informing him of "the truth." The Documentary would be totally unique if it forced its opinion upon its viewers. This way, The documentary allows the viewer to have their own opinion of whether Marla and her paintings were genuine or not.
